Transport to conference venue Stara Lesna from Bratislava or Poprad

We suggest to plan your arrival in Bratislava on Saturday 19/8/06 or at latest on Sunday 20/8/06 morning, since transport by bus from Bratislava to Stara Lesna will be provided on Sunday 20/08 leaving between 10:00-11:00am. Likewise, at the end of the conference, the transport from Stara Lesna to Bratislava will be provided on Friday 25/8/06 leaving between 10:00-11:00 am. If you are interested, please book this means of transport to conference venue in the Registration booking form.

Stara Lesna is situated about 17 km from the town of Poprad. You can reach Poprad by train from Bratislava Main Railway station (Bratislava - Hlavna stanica) to Poprad-Tatry Railway station (350km, www.zsr.sk). Stara Lesna is from Poprad easily accessible by train, bus (www.eurolines.sk/default_uk.asp) or taxi.

Climate and weather
Slovakia is located in temperate zone with regular change of four seasons, resulting in hot summers and cold winters. The weather in High Tatras is variable, temperature inversions and clear blue skies are common, but so are high winds and snowstorms. The weather can change dramatically in minutes. Web weather in Slovak is available at www.meteo.sk and www.hory.sk. The average summer temperature in High Tatras is 16-20°C. In Stara Lesna, the daily temperatures may reach up to 30°C.

National food:
Ask for a bowl of HALUSKY, a traditional mixture of pasta leavened with sheep's cheese and fried pieces of bacon.

Currency Exchange:
Local currency is the Slovak Crown (Slovenska koruna - SKK; 1 EUR~38 SKK, 1 USD~31 SKK; www.nbs.sk). The foreign currencies can be changed at the airport, in the exchange offices, banks and some hotels. Payments can be done also by credit cards. The Euro currency is accepted in some supermarkets.

Delegates are advised to take out travel insurance cover in case of illness, accidents, etc., during their stay in Slovakia. The Conference organizing committee can not assume financially responsibility for participant?s medical or emergency travel expenses.
